Marine Insulation

Ti Marine LowTemperature & Cryogenic Insulation

Trident’s Ti Marine group has been active in the industrial and maritime insulation business since 1945. We are a leader in the industry, delivering low-temperature and cryogenic insulation solutions for cargo tanks, fuel tanks and pipe systems in the energy, military, cruise and commercial markets. Our success is the result of continuous development of new, more efficient solutions.

Our spray foam or panel insulation solutions can be applied to any low-temperature, independent, self-supported tank structure. We also offer a variety of solutions for liquefied gas pipe insulation.

Spray Foam Insulation

Our spray foam insulation system is a “foam in-situ” application process incorporating our unique polyurethane based, Purfome™ insulation foam and polymeric based Purkote™ coating.

To date more than 130 LPG vessels have used this solution, equivalent to more than 4,000,000 m² of insulated tank surface.

Maximum Flexibility, Minimal Disruption

In a busy shipbuilding environments, tank insulation delays can have a major impact on schedules and costs. Trident’s spray foam insulation system lends itself to high production efficiency and flexible application with few operators and minimal scaffolding requirements. The materials have excellent weather exposure resistance during assembly to provide year-round flexibility in scheduling. Low material consumption minimizes waste and environmental impact.

Low Boil-Off Rate — and Low Cost

Our spray foam system is a fully bonded, seamless and void-free insulation design the entire composite structure follows tank contraction and expansion. Combined with a strong main insulation material, the system delivers flexible, tight and strong surface protection. All of this leads to excellent system thermal efficiency, delivering low boil-off rates. In addition, our spray foam insulation solution requires minimal in-service maintenance.

Cryogenic Insulation for LNG, LPG and LEG Cargo, Fuel & Bunker Tanks

Trident has been providing cryogenic cargo tank insulation systems for LNG, LPG and LEG cargo tanks, fuel tanks and terminal pipes for decades. Our services include installation, upgrades and repairs, and our flexible solutions can be applied in multiple cargo tank structures — Types A, B and C — including Moss-type, prismatic, bilobe and cylindrical carriers. Trident innovation has resulted in ground-breaking boil-off rates as low as 0.08% per day.

Panel Insulation

Trident’s panel insulation system is a turnkey cargo tank solution for Moss-type LNG and SBP type cargo tanks, as well as for LNG fuel tanks. Our CNC-machined expanded polystyrene (EPS) and polyurethane (PU) panels result in a flexible design that fits most tank geometries and provides cost savings for the cargo owner, with boil-off rates as low as 0.08% per day — the lowest rate on the market.

Our 1m x 1m EPS panels are prefabricated in three layers from EPS slab elements and weigh less than 7kg for EPS — and less than 13kg for polyurethane (PU). The layers are reinforced with glass fiber crack-barrier mesh and held together with two-component low-temperature glue. Aluminum foil sheets cover the outside surface.

Trident’s Shanghai manufacturing facility is strategically located to serve our major new build insulation markets. The facility specializes in manufacturing LNG and LPG insulation panels and pipe insulation elements, including cutting, milling, sizing and lamination.

The factory produces 200,000 panels yearly, each with its own unique barcode identifier. Shipping is carefully planned to ensure that panels are delivered to the work site in the correct sequence. This timing minimizes project site storage and supports a seamless panel application process.

Fast, Flexible Installation

Our prefabricated panels can be installed on any tank geometry. One stud bolt and fixing point per panel — with a staggered finger joint system — means easy installation and improved tightness. Joints are filled with mineral wool and polyurethane foam, and any gaps in the foil sheets are bridged and sealed with flexible mastic filings, forming a strong surface.

Liquified Gas Pipe Insulation

Trident offers several solutions for low-temperature and cryogenic insulation of liquefied gas pipes. With best-in-class product consistency, reduced application costs and faster project completion, our bonded insulation solution eliminates pipe corrosion from moisture and water ingress. Field labor is reduced to a minimum through an efficient and flexible application, and our highly portable containerized production facilities provide the operational flexibility to deploy the technology either onsite or offsite.

Rotating Generation (RG) LNG Pipe Insulation

Our rotating generation (RG) LNG pipe insulation system is a cost-effective, pre-insulated and fully bonded solution for large scale LNG terminal projects requiring insulation of multiple pipe sections.

The RG system is based on proven technology, but is executed in a unique way. Highly portable containerized production facilities allow us to deploy the technology globally, either onsite or offsite. The insulation process is significantly more automated than traditional insulation methods, which lets us deliver best-in-class product consistency, reduced application costs, less field labor and faster project completion.

Thermal and mechanical properties are mapped and verified in extensive testing during development and operation.

Prefabricated Cryogenic Pipe Insulation

Prefabricated cryogenic pipe insulation sections and associated fittings are manufactured at our facility in Shanghai. Each pipe section is delivered with cladding, vapor barrier and reinforcement.

Sprayed Cryogenic Pipe Insulation

Sprayed cryogenic pipe insulation is an effective technology for smaller scale pipe insulation projects, for insulating non-standard pipe system components, and for repair and maintenance projects. Pipe fittings can be pre-insulated prior to assembly or insulated in situ.

Poured PU Cryogenic Pipe Insulation

Poured polyurethane (PU) cryogenic pipe insulation is applied on valve boxes for LNG terminals. This technology is most suited to repair and retrofit of cryogenic pipes and fittings.
